The unit was created on the 4th of October 2004 in Focsani garrison by reorganizing the 81st artillery regiment in the same garrison.
The main task of the battalion is training in order to be compatible with euro-atlantic military organizations.
Ever since it was created, the unit’s personnel which is made up entirely of professional military persons , has participated in training activities in the deployment garrison and it has also took part in a variety of the exercises, most common beeing command post exercises, map exercises and live firing exercises in Cincu and Smardan firing ranges. Also, officers, NCO’s and military under contract have participated in missions in Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operations.
In the summer of 2005 the battalion used all available forces and assets to help the population from Vrancea get through the situation caused by abundent rains in July. Therefore, it evacuated and saved people and assets from violent floods; it transported food and other necessary goods, it cleared the houses and the lines of communication, it rebuilt the affected infrastructure. The efforts, sometimes beyond the limits of human resistance, increased the respect that the population from this county has for the military institution in general, and for the artillery men from Vrancea in particular.
